DAY 136 | Buy Grains in Bulk

It’s time for the power of bulk! I eat a lot of grains. Particularly RICE!

Buying grains in bulk will reduce the amount of plastic I waste with this purchase and it will save on future shopping trips.

There have been a lot of times where we ran out and we made a trip just for one item. It’s a waste of gas.

Another note is that the closet bulk bin that has rice is 45 minutes away AND is very overpriced.

It sells brown rice for $2.99 a pound which doesn’t make sense for my budget. I eat a lot of rice!!! And I’m used to paying $0.50-$0.70 per pound.

Sometimes bulk bins are not feasible. So what do you do?

You buy the BIGGEST amount you can. Even if you’re buying a 25-pound bag of rice that comes in PLASTIC, it’s still less than buying 25 1-pound bags.

Plus a lot of bulk bins fill their bins with large bags — most of which is plastic.

So my approach to this is to pretend to be the store and do what they do for their bulk bins. Buy a large bag.
